The Crystal Caves was discovered by two boys playing a game of cricket and they lost their ball down a hole. One having being lowered into the hole found magnificent crystal and a clear lake created by "Mother Nature" many years ago. The tours are 25-minutes long and you must travel down 88 steep stairs leading to the undergound spectacluar show. Here you will find a series of caverns, a blueish-green lagoon, approximately 55 feet deep, over which bridges have been constructed. The water is as beautiful as the ocean which surrounds the island.
Fantasy Caves, reopened in 2001 after being closed sometime in the 1940s, is another natural wonder which offers a fantastic fantasy of displayed crystals. The entrance to this cave is much steeper than the Crystal Caves, some 120 feet below the earth. It is filled from top to bottom with various formations of chandelier clusterd straw formations and the walls resemble frozen waterfalls.
Neither cave is recommended for those with upper respiratory problems, but if you're one of the ones who is able to venture into the caves. they have a beautiful seating area right outside each cave for you to rest before continuing on to the next one. There are picnic tables, Café Olé, Fiddlestix Gift Shop and restrooms on the premises, so you could easily spend a morning or afternoon at The Caves.
