New Jersey Tribute Salutes
Madelyn
When you think of Madelyn, you think Bermuda.
As much as you loved her, you shared her.
She belonged to Bermuda
and she belonged to New Jersey.
In New Jersey Madelyn had family, friends and her own Orange posse. She came to East Orange at least twice a year and sometimes more often. In September we had our annual Bermuda/NJ week. That's when she was the hostess with the most´est. She helped plan activities, sold dance tickets and made sure you attended all the events. This is when she really started to be the boss.
She would call her posses to get ready for her Sunday morning codfish breakfast. She didn't care where you were, what you had to do, it was bring the pots, pans, take me to the grocery store and anything else that needed to be done. If you believe in numbers play 628. 628 was her room and she wasn't having it any other way.
On Sunday morning 628 was full of people. People came in their pajamas, half-dressed or wore anything available. The other thing 628 was famous for was
the after dance party. If you were someone, you were there. We sat on the bed, the floor, the bureau or stood up.
What Madelyn did was share her love, kindness and generosity. She taught people to share and learn about our cultural differences.
She made a difference in many lives in New Jersey. She will always be loved and remembered.
She will always be a part of New Jersey and although she is gone, she will NEVER, NEVER be forgotten. We will always love her and be grateful for her being a part of our lives.
Steven and Shelley, we will always be your family and we love you.
